This Weekend Near Essex on the Park: The Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade and River Dyeing!
It’s been said that St. Patrick’s Day is to Chicago, as Mardi Gras is to New Orleans—that’s how seriously we Chicagoans take this holiday! f it’s your first time in the city for a St. Paddy’s Day since you’ve moved in, just know you’re in for a real treat.
The day kicks off with the iconic Chicago River dyeing. At around 9 a.m. on March 14, the river will be dosed with that emerald green glow that makes publications across the globe. Scope out a spot between State and Columbus to see the transformation unfold for yourself. Typically the water will remain green for only a few hours, so don’t be late! Then around noon, the famed Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off. The route runs north along Columbus Avenue from Balbo to Monroe, so keep that in mind when figuring out where to get a spot! You’ll find tons of local bands, community organizations, dancers and of course, floats.
It’s a celebration you don’t want to miss!
